Can I undergo Panchkarma when I am not suffering from some disease?

Ayurveda advocates that Panchkarma should be done regularly (yearly, every 6 months , every 3 months) to boost immunity, protect from various diseases and to get rid of toxins. Every person should undergo Panchkarma not only during various diseased conditions but also  during health as it cleanses your body and helps in rejuvenation and detoxification. It works not only on physical body but also on mind and emotions.

What is the perfect time for Panchkarma?

When symptoms of some disease are severe, there is excess accumulation of undigested food called aama(toxins), strong impairment  of doshas (vata, pitta, kapha), Panchkarma should be performed.

An Ayurvedic physician accesses the state of doshas and strength of  toxins accumulated in your body. Physician can know about these doshas and toxins by observing variety of physical, mental, and emotional symptoms and hence observws the unbalance of doshas. Ayurveda also recommends Panchkarma during change of seasons.

Panchkarma acts by expelling toxins from the body hence detoxifying and rejuvenating it and hence balancing the unbalanced doshas and other constituents of body. What should be eaten during Panchkarma?

Ayurveda believes that for good health, having great digestion is very important and hence irrespective of the state of health of an individual, one should take light vegetarian food and soups during Panchkarma. Specially during Panchkarma, such diet is recommended to ensure that doshas are not further impaired. Light, fresh, vegetarian, moderately spiced foods are recommended and heavy, spicy, oily, stale, non vegetarian and junk food is to be completely avoided. Intoxicating agents like tobacco, alcohol, drugs and non vegetarian foods are avoided.

What lifestyle changes are expected during Panchkarma?

During Panchkarma, heavy and strenuous work is avoided and you are expected to have gentle and relaxed lifestyle. Timely waking up, ample sleep is recommended, late sleeping and day sleeping, sexual activities are avoided.

At what time of the year should I go for Panchkarma?

Panchkarma can be carried out at anytime during the year as the physician can design it according to the season, your doshas and diseased condition. Still, spring season between March to April are considered the best time for cleansing and rejuvenation. Also, autumn season is considered good time for Panchkarma

Do I need to skip my office during Panchkarma treatment?

Generally a person undergoing Panchkarma is expected to avoid any mental or physical stress and to take full rest. If it is very necessary, you can go to work provided your work does not involve much physical activity and mental stress.
